This includes stocking up on a few more hygiene products and supplies to maintain your new lifestyle. To make things easier, we’ve listed all the things you’ll need to keep your Invisalign clear aligners clean.
Get Another Toothbrush
Dr. Francisco Garcia at Garcia Orthodontics recommends that you have two toothbrushes: one for your teeth and one for your Invisalign clear aligners. This is due to the fact that your Invisalign aligners do not need the same tough bristles used to scrub teeth clean. A softer bristled toothbrush is all you will need to clean the aligners as to not damage them. Having two different toothbrushes also reduces the risk of staining the aligners with leftover food particles from brushing your teeth.
Use Non-Whitening Toothpaste
A common misconception is that you can use any toothpaste to clean your Invisalign aligners. This is not true. Many people tend to use whitening toothpastes – which are perfectly fine for teeth, but not so for clear aligners. While these types of toothpastes help your teeth to look brighter, they have the opposite effect on aligners. Whitening toothpastes can cause them to look dull or cloudy, making them no longer invisible.
Floss Often
If you thought flossing was important before, it’ll be even more important now with Invisalign. While not having braces allows you to still enjoy the foods you love, when it’s time to put your aligners back in, it is important to make sure to remove any food debris to avoid staining them. The best way to do so is by flossing.
Soak for a Deeper Clean
Soaking solutions are a great way to thoroughly clean your aligners. Whether you do it daily or every few days, soaking your aligners is one of the best ways to keep them clean during treatment. If you want to make the most of your time, try soaking them while you’re eating.
Travel Kit
Just as you would carry a travel case for your braces, you should do the same for Invisalign. Not only will having a case and kit keep them safe, but it can also prevent losing or damaging your aligners. Pack an extra set of toothpaste, a toothbrush, and floss so that you can brush between meals.
